Generic Membrane (2015)

installation, black acrylic glass, polished aluminum, wire, monophonic in-wall speaker, variable dimensions

Following the protocol that the eye in the ear must be exercised, the Generic Membrane panels map a denaturalized sonic territory of a voice projecting from the inside of a wall into textual arrays. The panels are relays in the translation of a Latin epigram carrying a metaphor spuriously attributed to St. Augustin. The topos of a sunbeam traveling through glass without breaking it, has been at the same time an explanation for the Incarnation of the Word, a weapon against Christian heretics, and the residue of an enduring generic image.
